Housing security
NYC youth deserve access to secure, safe, and quality housing which serves as the foundation to positive and healthy outcomes in all areas of their lives. When young people experience housing insecurity, they face numerous barriers to accessing education, employment, and healthcare, exacerbating existing inequalities and hindering their ability to thrive. In light of the declared housing "state of emergency", young people, especially those most vulnerable, are facing greater housing insecurity than ever which has far-reaching consequences for the city's future.
Young people are an essential part of this city's social and economic fabric yet the lack of affordable housing options is driving many to reconsider their future in NYC, potentially leading to a loss of talent and diversity in our communities. Addressing the housing crisis is imperative for ensuring the well-being of our youth and safeguarding the future vitality and resilience of our city as a whole. The youth of the NYC Youth Agenda, alongside young people citywide, are eager to contribute to solutions aimed at enhancing housing accessibility for all.
